NYC Cat Lovers Care for Stray Cats

Even in the big cities like New York, cats are abandoned or simply run away and end up living on the mean streets.

What happens to these kitties when they go feral?

Cat lovers in NYC are trying to care for some of these poor babies with some limited success.

Cat lovers are taking it upon themselves to control the feral feline population uptown, but some of their neighbors are having kittens over the effort.

Stray cats throughout Washington Heights and upper Harlem have dozens of al fresco dining options, thanks to the efforts of residents like Sherri Laurence, Sheila Massey and others.

They’ve set up feeding stations in parking lots, behind apartment buildings in a community garden and outside Edgecombe Correctional Facility, where gruff jailhouse officers started feeding (and naming) a half-dozen street cats in June.

Although some residents have set up feeding stations in an attempt to care for the cats, other residents just want the felines to go away.  NY contineus it’s efforts to trap and neuter stray cats in order to control their population.

This issue has been going on for years and will continue for the foreseeable future.
